A member of a regional political party in Andhra Pradesh filed a police complaint against film director Ram Gopal Varma, accusing him of making hate speech and hurting Hindu religious sentiments through social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.
The complaint was filed by the Rashtriya Praja Congress president and High Court advocate, Meda Srinivas, at the Three Town Police Station, with video clippings and social media posts submitted as evidence. Speaking to the press, Srinivas said
the director’s “barbaric” posts had not only deeply offended sections of society but also posed a threat to social harmony and public unity.
He further alleged that Varma had mocked Hindu gods and sacred texts, including the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Calling the content inflammatory and derogatory, Srinivas demanded that the police register a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The complaint is now under review by the police authorities.
