Oscar-winning actor Juliette Binoche has been appointed as the jury head of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. This makes the actor the second woman to hold this position. The first woman to preside over the jury was the Barbie director and producer Greta Gerwig. Gerwig was the one who awarded the Palme d'Or to Sean Baker's acclaimed film Anora.
Sharing a statement with the media about the honour, the actor stated, "In 1985, I climbed the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a
young actress,” Binoche said, speaking about her debut appearance at the Cannes for her breakthrough film Rendez-vous, for which director André Téchiné won Best Director.
"I never imagined returning 40 years later in this honorary role as jury president. I am aware of the privilege, the responsibility, and the absolute need for humility," Binoche added.
Binoche was last seen in the 2024 film, The Return, which reunited her with The English Patient co-star Ralph Fiennes.
