Some actors effortlessly embody certain roles, while others diligently work towards finding the essence of their characters. Regardless, it’s the filmmakers and writers who witness the actors breathe life into the characters they’ve meticulously crafted on paper. In casting director Mukesh Chhabra’s upcoming podcast on Mashable India, he engages in conversations with iconic directors, uncovering untold stories behind casting decisions. Recently, he unveiled the podcast’s teaser featuring guests such as Kabir Khan, Farah Khan, Raj and DK, Hansal Mehta and Imtiaz Ali.
The filmmakers reveal various interesting details about the casting in their films. For instance, Kabir Khan speaks about how he cast Salman Khan for the role of Tiger
in the first film of the franchise. However, while he was considering Katrina Kaif for the role of Zoya, he approached Salman. He mentions in the clip, “This was the stage where they had broken up and they weren’t that comfortable.” Filmmakers Raj and DK discussed their hit web show Family Man and shared how the lead character would have been entirely different if Manoj Bajpayee hadn’t come on board.
Imitiaz Ali shared how Alia was a little overwhelmed while working on his film Highway because there was ‘so much to do.’ Imtiaz also speaks about casting Ranbir Kapoor in Tamasha and Rockstar. Farah Khan revealed that many actors rejected the negative role of a terrorist in Main Hoon Na, which was ultimately taken up by Suniel Shetty.
