On February 7, the Karnataka government renamed a 12 km stretch between Nayandahalli Junction on Mysuru Road and Vega City Mall on Bannerghatta Road along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) after Puneeth Rajukumar. Kannada star Puneeth Rajkumar died in October 2021 after suffering a heart attack.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai did the honours after people in the city had been demanding that a road be named after the James star ever since his demise. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Pailke subsequently floated a tender regarding the same and residents associations along this road came forward to give their approval.
Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar (producer and wife of Puneeth) were part of the renaming ceremony.
Following the event, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar took to social media to express her thanks to the Karnataka CM. She stated that she was indebted to the State Government, the Karnataka Film Chamber, the film fraternity and all of Appu's fans for keeping him alive in different ways.
Puneeth Rajkumar is survived by his wife and two daughters. His brother Shiva Rajkumar is a popular Kannada actor who is making his debut in Tamil with Superstar Rajinikanth in Jailer.
