Legendary Malayalam singer P Jayachandran dies at 80

Veteran playback singer P Jayachandran died on January 9 at the age of 80. With a career spanning over six decades, Jayachandran sang more than 16,000 songs and breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur.

Fondly known as the Bhava Gayakan (Singer of Emotions), Jayachandran leaves behind a remarkable legacy in Indian music. Renowned for his soulful and emotive voice, he captivated audiences across generations by lending his voice to songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

His ability to evoke deep



emotion through his singing earned him a special place in the hearts of music lovers and garnered him numerous accolades, including the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer, five Kerala State Film Awards, four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, the JC Daniel Award from the Government of Kerala, and the Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Jayachandran's contributions to film and devotional music remain timeless, cementing his status as one of the most beloved voices in Indian playback history. He is survived by his wife, Lalitha, daughter Lakshmi, and son Dinanathan.
