Katrina Kaif began her acting career in 2003 with the film, 'Boom'. Despite the film's lack of success, she gained recognition slowly and steadily. While her career was growing, she was criticised for her weak Hindi speaking skills. Despite these challenges, Kaif started learning Hindi and denied allegations of using a dubbing artist in her early films.
In a recent interview with Mid Day, she credited Jackie Shroff for advising her to learn the Devnagri script and acknowledged her co-stars' help in learning Hindi.
She said, "No, no! It’s just hard work. It was hard work. I think it was Jackie Shroff who first told me to learn
Devnagri and that was very important for me because in my first few films, at that time, the directors would write the lines on the set and give it to you. A lot of them would write in Devnagri and I never wanted to be in the position where I was like ‘what do I do?’ So, the first thing I did was to learn to read in Devnagri and that was the base which saved me."
Katrina continued, "Having amazing people to work with and just putting your head down and doing what is necessary and loving what you do. If you love what you do then you will put in the work. (I did) whatever it was, whether it was learning the language, whether it was dance that I needed to (work on)."
