Oscar-winning singer and actress Irene Cara is no more. She is known for lending her voice to title tracks of Fame and Flashdance. Irene passed away at 63. Her publicist, Judith A. Moose, confirmed the news of her death in a statement shared on the singer's Twitter account.
"It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara," Moose wrote. "The Academy Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter and producer passed away in her Florida home." "Irene's family has requested privacy as they process their grief," the rep added. "She
was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films."
Cara's cause of death is currently unknown, but it will be released when information is available, her rep said.
Cara also acted in the film as well as recorded the title song Fame. The track went on to be nominated for an Academy Award for best original song. Later, the singer worked on her famous Flashdance number, Flashdance… What a Feeling. The singer was married to Conrad Palmisano, a stuntman and director, from 1986 until their divorce in 1991.
