Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar will be seen sharing screen space in Badhaai Do, which is the sequel to 2018 film Badhaai Ho, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra. Directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni, Badhaai Do is penned by Suman Adhikary and Akshay Ghildial. Rajkummar and Bhumi took to social media to announce the news.
Sharing a photo of himself and Bhumi Pednekar, in which the actors are seen shaking hands, Rajkummar Rao wrote, "Toh date pakki!? Haath milao @bhumipednekar (sanitiser laga ke Warning sign), 2021 ki shuruat badhaiyon ke sath. #BadhaaiDo @JungleePictures #HarshavardhanKulkarni #AkshatGhildial @sumadhikary (sic)."

This is the first time Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao are coming together for lead parts. In Badhaai Do, Rajkummar Rao will be seen in the role of a Delhi cop, who is the only male police officer in a mahila thana. Bhumi Pednekar, on the other hand, will be seen playing the role of a PT teacher. While the story and characters of Badhaai Do will be different from the 2018 film, the two films are connected by a common theme. The film will be directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni. Suman Adhikary and Akshay Ghildial, who also wrote the dialogues of Badhaai Ho, are the writers of Badhaai Do.
