The BAFTA nominations list would be out on January 19, while the Award ceremony would be taking place a month later, on February 19 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. Ahead of it, the longlist across 24 categories was announced today, and India can rejoice. Even though Sanjay Leela Bhansai’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt in the titular role, failed to make the cut, SS Rajamouli’s RRR earned a nomination in the ‘Film Not in the English Language’ category.
RRR has made it to the BAFTA longlist. The SS Rajamouli film, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, was a part of Film Not in the English Language category. The final list will be out on January 19, and one can only hope that the film makes it to the nominations in the category.
This is one more feather added to SS Rajamouli and RRR’s caps. RRR has been
finding a prominent place in many international award nominations. On December 12, the film’s song, Naatu Naatu, made it to the top 15 in the Original Song category for Golden Globes 2023. On December 15, the film won four nominations at HCA Film Awards. The official Twitter handle of RRR shared the happy news and wrote, "The nomination spree continues! #RRR bags 4 nominations at the #HCAFilmAwards! @HCAcritics. Thank you so much Jury for recognising #RRRMovie (sic)."
While SS Rajamouli won a nomination in the Best Director category, the film was nominated in three sections - Best Picture, Best Action Film and Best International Film.
While RRR kept the hopes alive, SLB’s Gangubai Kathiawadi failed to make the cut. Bhansali had earlier earned a nomination in 2003 for the film Devdas, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Aishwarya Rai.
