Anupamaa actor Rupali Ganguly has filed a defamation suit against stepdaughter, Esha Verma, for "tarnishing" her reputation through the latter's social media statements. Ganguly's lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, hinted at Verma's "foreign citizenship" in a statement, and said that it can't shield her from legal jurisdiction in India.

Khan said, "We have filed a defamation suit in the High Court today to combat the malicious and calculated attempt to tarnish

Rupali’s reputation through baseless and defamatory statements."

"No one can misuse public platforms to defame and degrade others without facing the consequences", she added.

The lawyer further said, "Misguided belief that foreign citizenship can shield a person from accountability is legally unfounded. Justice knows no borders, and the law will pursue those who misuse their privileges to commit offences, regardless of where they reside."
