Selena Gomez has been roped in to give her voice for a character in Universal’s ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’. The movie will star Robert Downey Jr. Tom Holland, Emma Thompson, and Ralph Fiennes have also been signed to lend their voice to other characters.
Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen will portray live-action characters. Universal acquired the project last year. Stephen Gaghan will helm the project from a screenplay which he wrote with an earlier draft by Tom
Sheppard.
The film is based on a character from the 1920’s series of children’s books by Hugh Lofting. In the book, a Victorian-era physician chooses to treat animals over humans as he is able to talk to animals. The character was played by Harrison in the 1967 musical ‘Doctor Dolittle’. The film won Academy awards for best original song and visual effects. Eddie Murphy played the role in 1998 film ‘Doctor Dolittle’ and its sequel which released in 2001.
