Shivani Chakraborty has been suffering from terminal cancer for years now. However, the disease has not doused her love for cinema and in particular, for the Badshah of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan.
A resident of Khardah, North 24 Parganas, 60-year-old Shivani has remained a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan throughout her life. She has watched all his films. Despite being under treatment, Chakraborty insisted on watching SRK and Deepika Padukone-starrer Pathaan at cinemas. She has pictures from the superstar’s movies from 2000s hung on the walls of her bedroom. She even fell in love with cricket after Khan launched Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Speaking to Aajtak, Chakraborty said, “I am counting days as doctors have said I will not live long. There is one wish, call it my last wish. It is to meet Shahrukh Khan before I die. I want to see him in person.”
Chakraborty wants to treat SRK with a typical Bengali meal from her kitchen and ‘nothing fancy’ as she thinks the superstar might enjoy something simpler. “I will cook for him something that we eat at our home every day. He loves Bengal so he might enjoy the homely meal I hope to cook for him,” Shivani
said wiping a framed picture of Shah Rukh with her saree’s aanchal.
When asked what would be the one thing she would want to tell or ask Shah Rukh, Chakraborty said, “I want to ask him to bless my daughter. I want to see him and understand how such a star is so grounded.”
Shivani's daughter Priya has already put out videos on social media expressing her mother's ‘last wish’ to meet Shah Rukh Khan. She hopes to fulfill her mother’s desires apart from taking care of her during her days of pain. “My mother is gradually losing her vision due to the terminal ailment, I hope her wish is fulfilled,” Priya said, wiping her tears.
Shivani has undergone as many as ten chemo sessions as a part of her treatment. She is also suffering from a spinal cord issue that has led to a deformed back, making it difficult for her to walk.
Chakraborty’s story reminds us of Aruna PK, a fan of SRK, who died in 2017 of cancer. She had wished to meet the actor. SRK had grown to be her source of strength during her tough times. The Raees actor had not only recorded a video message for her but made a phone call when she was in the hospital, which made Aruna smile through her oxygen mask.
