The popular television show Anupamaa made headlines last week following a tragic incident on its sets. After a crew member died due to electrocution on the sets, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for justice for the deceased. Suresh Shamlal Gupta, the association's founder and president, has reached out to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, seeking his intervention in the matter.

The All India Cine Workers Association which advocates for the safety and security of artists and workers in the Indian film industry has described the death of the 32-year-old crew member on the sets of Anupamaa as 'institutionalised murder caused by the greed and negligence of producers, the production house, and the channel.'

A copy of the letter written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was shared on AICWA on X.

The letter states that the incident took place around 9:30 pm on November

14 due to faulty and poorly maintained equipment on the sets, leading to electrocution. Despite the tragedy, the shooting continued until midnight and resumed at regular hours the following day. An FIR has reportedly been filed against the electrical contractor for negligence.

AICWA has urged the Chief Minister to file an FIR under IPC Section 302 against all parties responsible for the incident. They are demanding accountability from the producers, production house, channel, and other authorities involved. As compensation, the TV body has called for the production team to provide Rs1 crore to the deceased worker's family. Additionally, they emphasised the need for strict safety protocols on sets and have requested a halt to the shooting of Rupali Ganguly’s serial until justice is served.

The production house behind the show, Rajan Shahi's Director's Kut Productions, has yet to release an official statement regarding the tragedy.
