Sutapa Sikdar, writer and wife of late actor Irrfan Khan, has spoken candidly about the immense pressure her son, Babil Khan, is facing following his entry into Bollywood. During a recent visit to Lucknow, she revealed that the young actor is under significant stress, which has brought him close to depression.

"Babil pe bahut zyada pressure hai aur mujhe yeh thik nahin lagta! This pressure should not be there, Irrfan never had that pressure and when you don’t put any pressure on yourself, your individuality comes out. It’s not only about work but also about losing the father figure, almost depression mein hai! (Babil is under a lot of pressure, and I don’t think it’s right. Irrfan never faced such pressure, and when you let go of that burden, your individuality shines through. It is not just about work. Babil has also lost his father, which has almost sent him into

depression)," said Sikdar.

She added that the pressure stems not only from his budding career but also from the emotional weight of losing his father, who died in 2020. "Babil is very vulnerable and doesn’t have the fighter’s spirit like his father or me. Comparisons are inevitable, but I hope he overcomes this soon,” she remarked.

Drawing a parallel with Abhishek Bachchan’s career struggles under the shadow of Amitabh Bachchan’s legacy, Sikdar said Babil faces a similar challenge. “Like, Abhishek Bachchan did amazing work in I Want to Talk but wahi hai...comparisons with legendary Amitabh Bachchan have works against him. I feel Babil is going through a similar ordeal. I just hope he overcomes it soon."

Babil Khan made his acting debut in Qala (2022) and was also seen in The Railway Men, alongside Kay Kay Menon, R Madhavan, and Divvyendu.
