Famed Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has called for a ban on item songs in Indian movies as she believes they promote obscenity.
According to Indian media, Kangana in an interview said that item songs should be banned in all films, saying that she herself would never want to feature in one.
She further explained why she believes these songs should not be made: because they propagate vulgarity and project content that’s explicit in nature.
"Well... I don’t do item numbers because there is nothing to be done in them. They are... they are obscene, they are at times unfair, most of them are sexist. What is there to be done in them? I personally
feel they should be banned. I can’t be a part of something which is so toxic for us, our society, our children," she said in response to a question about why she doesn't do item numbers.
Kangana is known for her gutsy attitude and maintaining her stance firmly. She is one of the few actresses that have been vocal against decades-old nepotism that prevails in the Hindi film industry.
The three-time- national award winner is famous for her brilliance in the portrayal of influential roles, making her one of Bollywood’s highest-paid actresses. Her films have noticeably entered the coveted 100-crore-club time and again without the presence of any superstars in them.
