Telangana CM opposes resumption of train services over COVID-19 spread

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao On Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministers not to resume train services, which were stopped as part of preventive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country. The chief minister also said that he is that vaccine for COVID-19 would be available in the months of July-August; most probably it would be from Hyderabad.

During his interaction with PM Modi and the chief ministers of other states, Rao expressed fear that resuming train services can spread the coronavirus, and screening, containment will be difficult. He further said that if the train services are



allowed there would be a movement of people from one destination to the other including cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, which are highly affected by the coronavirus.

After a 40-day lockdown, Indian Railways decided to "gradually" start train services from May 12.

Besides that, Telangana chief minister said that the lockdown should be confined to the containment zone and be continued. Moreover, an immediate response from the Centre is required for defining zones. CM Rao also said that the coronavirus situation will prevail forever up to some extent therefore we have to learn to live with it.
