In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the first death due to COVID-19 has been reported. A 49 year old government employee at DC office in Port Blair succumbed to COVID-19 yesterday. The patient was admitted to the G. B Pant Hospital on 19th July after he was tested positive for COVID-19. The patient had  hypertension, diabetes and coronary artery disease. He was also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease.
 
14 fresh positive cases of COVID-19 were reported while 10 patients recovered. Till date a total of 338 cases of



COVID-19 have been reported in the islands out of which 192 recovered while 145 are still active. The recovery rate in the Islands stands at 57 per cent.
 
In view of sudden surge in active cases, the district administration of South Andaman has ordered  closure of all liquor shops from today while timings of shops in North and Middle Andaman district have been restricted. The fish and vegetable market in North Andaman will be closed and the items will be provided at the doorsteps.
