Political rivalries have come to a grinding halt in Tamil Nadu as the number of fatalities due to Covid-19 crossed 25,000 mark on Wednesday. The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said in a release on Wednesday evening that 483 persons succumbed to the pandemic on a single day while 25, 317 persons were diagnosed with Covid.
There was no slack of any kind in testing as 1.63 lakh persons were tested across the State on Wednesday. Coimbatore logged 3,061 cases while neighboring districts of Tirupur and Erode continued to show increased figures of 1252 and 1488 respectively.
The opposition AIADMK has called for truce and was extending
support to the DMK Government’s efforts to bring the State to normalcy. Chennai registered 2,217 new cases on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin expressed his restlessness over the total lock down declared in the State. “We cannot keep extending the lockdown and there has to be full stop to this soon. And that is only in the people’s hands. There can be an to the spread of Covid-19 only if the restrictions are followed completely,” said Stalin in a message to the people of Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister has expressed his reservations against lock down of any kind even when he was the Leader of the Opposition.
