A total of 34 cases of JN.1 variant of coronavirus have been detected in Karnataka, as per the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services.
Of the 34 cases in the state, 20 cases have been reported in Bengaluru, four cases in Mysuru, three in Mandya and one case each from Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar. Three cases of death have been reported from Bengaluru South, West, and the Ramanagara district.
Out of 192 samples submitted, results of 60 samples of genome sequencing are available till date. The results of the remaining positive cases will be available by Wednesday, as per the Health Department.
In view of
the increased incidence of the Covid-19 cases in neighbouring Kerala and Tamil Nadu, necessary precautionary measures are being taken up in Karnataka.
In the wake of a fresh rise in Covid-19 cases across the state, the elderly (60 + years), people with comorbidities (particularly with kidney, heart, liver ailments), pregnant women and lactating mothers, are advised to avoid visiting closed, poorly ventilated spaces and crowded areas.
When outdoors, everyone should wear face masks.
Persons with respiratory symptoms are advised to avoid places of festivities and recreational centers (including swimming pools) and seek medical consultation.
