In Tamil Nadu, 639 people tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. The total infected people in the state has surged to 11,224. Six hundred 34 patients have been discharged after treatment, while four others died of the disease taking the total death toll to 78. The active caseload remains 6,971.
State has allowed several relaxations in 25 districts where the prevalence of Corona virus infection is less. Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has said his government will talk to the Centre to resume the operation of the Vande Bharat evacuation flights to the state. His assurance comes in
the wake of the state not finding a place in the schedule for the second phase of the country’s largest ever repatriation exercise.
In the first phase, ten flights were operated to Chennai and Trichy bringing 1665 people while the two naval ships INS Jalashwa and INS Magar helped to bring 264 people from abroad. Mr Palaniswamy has said Rajdhani Express trains to Chennai will be operated twice a week by the Railways. He has also said efforts to bring the people from the state who are stranded in other states will be given the focus.
