Lucknow: The daily new Covid-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh came down below the 1,000-mark on Monday as curfew was relaxed in Saharanpur. It now remains in only three districts of the State, including Lucknow. According to government figures, during the past 24 hours, just 727 new cases of novel coronavirus infection were detected in the State while 2,860 Covid-19 patients recovered during this period. The number of fatalities also came down to 81 with the highest 24 Covid-19 deaths being reported from Kanpur Nagar.
Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal said here on Monday that now there were 15,681 active cases in the State out of which 9,286 were in home isolation while the overall positivity rate was just 3.3 per cent.
He said on Sunday, 2,80,220
samples were tested for coronavirus infection and now Uttar Pradesh was the only state in the country that had carried out more than five crore tests (5,16,22,903). “UP has also become the only state to vaccinate the highest number of 2.02,54,000 people so far,” he said.
Sehgal said that Covid curfew was relaxed in Saharanpur as the number of active cases came below 600. Now, there are more than 600 active cases only in Meerut, Lucknow and Gorakhpur districts, where Covid curfew is in force. All other 72 districts are free from Covid curfew. In Meerut, there are 898 active cases, in Lucknow 777 and in Gorakhpur 623. Sehgal said that no fresh COVID-19 case was reported in two districts while in 45 districts the new cases were in single digit and in the remaining districts the fresh cases were in double digits.
