In Tamil Nadu, the number of infected cases crossed the 2000-mark yesterday. With the reporting of 121 new cases, the figure rose to 2058.
Out of the new patients, 103 are from Chennai while a five-day old baby from the neighbouring Chengalpattu district has also been confirmed with the infection. However, 27 people were discharged yesterday and the active caseload is 902. One more person succumbed to the disease in the last 24-hours taking the toll to 25.
Meanwhile, the five-member Inter-Ministerial Central team visited several places in Chennai for the fourth day yesterday and took stock of the Covid-19 situation. They also met the state DGP and
discussed the ground realities. Four patients in the western district of Erode has been discharged last evening. Erode initially remained a hotspot with seventy patients and remained one of the early starters with the infection. No fresh case has been reported in the district for the last two weeks consistently. Therefore, along with Krishnagiri, now Erode also joins the list of districts with nil record of Covid-19 patients.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy is scheduled to discuss the situation with all district collectors this morning, as the current deadline for the lockdown of May 3rd is fast approaching.
