Tamil Nadu has witnessed 508 new cases of Covid19 yesterday, taking the total to 4058, while 76 were discharged. The total death toll due to the pandemic rose to 33 as two more people succumbed to the disease. Meanwhile, the number of testing laboratories in the state has gone up to 52 including 36 in government facilities.

State Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has said Chennai reports maximum number of Covid-19 cases due to its high population density. He also announced that free rations would be provided to all ration card holders in the state for the month of June as well. AIADMK and its partners opposed the government decision to open up the state-run liquor outlet in non-containment

zones.

Meanwhile, in a positive development, a group of youth in Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu have joined their hands for a public cause during the lockdown and unitedly restored a public well. The well at Rosalpatti Village gathered silt for long and simply vanished long back.

Young men, women and school students came together wearing masks and began desilting the well by the dawn maintaining due social distancing. Without seeking any help from outside, they restored the well to its former glory brimming with water in a single day before the dusk. They set an example for the youth power in building up public infrastructure even during the lockdown.
