In Tamil Nadu, shipments of one lakh rapid test kits are expected to arrive soon. The State Health Department has said, they will be used for making preliminary tests to identify persons with COVID-19 disease. In addition, one more COVID-19 testing laboratory has been approved by the Indian Council for Medical Research for the state.
The State Government is planning to establish more such laboratories so that they could be broad-based across the state. Tamil Nadu witnessed 69 new cases yesterday taking the total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 690. Meanwhile, a special Air India flight took off yesterday from Chennai carrying 108 passengers to the United States via Mumbai. All of them were the staff of the US Consulate in the
city and their families.
The Tamil Nadu Government is compiling the list of all the establishments producing medical equipment, sanitizers and personal protective equipment in the state. The move is aimed at placing orders even at short notice, as the threat posed by the SARS-CoV2 virus is looming large.
In all, 103 manufacturing units have registered themselves with the state small scale industry department through its website after it made a call to express their willingness to supply the medical products. Contingency plans are being devised by the Administration keeping in view the best and the worst case scenarios that may arise in future.
