New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Friday that the city reported nearly 17,000 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. Satyendar Jain also said the coronavirus peak, fifth in Delhi, is expected soon.
The Delhi health minister said, "Nearly 17,000 fresh [Covid] cases [were] recorded in Delhi in the past 24 hours, the positivity rate stands at 17 per cent. The peak of this Covid-19 wave in Delhi is expected soon."
"There are more than 30,000 active Covid-19 cases in Delhi and 24 patients are on ventilator...Delhi residents need to stay alert for the next two months," Satyendar Jain said.
Satyendar Jain also mentioned that there has been a increase in hospitalisations in the city, owing to the
rising Cvid cases in Delhi. "Many of these [hospitalised] patients are with co-morbidities," he said.
The health bulletin released on Thursday showed that 15,097 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in Delhi in 24 hours. This was the highest single-day rise the city recorded since May 8. The positivity rate also stood at 15.34 per cent.
Nearly 56,000 teenagers in Delhi belonging to the 15-17 age group received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose on Thursday, according to official figures.
The drive was started at 169 centres in the national capital on Monday. On January 6, 5.30 pm, a total of 55,979 children in the age bracket of 15-17 were vaccinated across Delhi.
