Washington: The global coronavirus caseload has topped 277.1 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.37 million and vaccinations to over 8.79 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Thursday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 277,151,167 and 5,376,725, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 8,798,254,223.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 51,545,991 and 812,069, according to the CSSE.

in terms of cases is India (34,758,481 infections and 478,325 deaths), followed by Brazil (22,222,928 infections and 618,091 deaths).

The other countries with over 5 million cases are the UK (11,713,654), Russia (10,114,983), Turkey (9,230,805), France (8,902,466), Germany (6,943,750), Iran (6,177,885), Spain (5,645,095), Italy (5,472,469), Argentina (5,415,501) and Colombia (5,112,719), the CSSE figures showed.

The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Mexico (298,161), Russia (294,322), Peru (202,338), the UK (148,038), Indonesia (144,034), Italy (136,077), Iran (131,211), Colombia (129,586), France (123,101), Argentina (131,211) and Germany (109,753).
