Gujarat continues to witness a surge in COVID-19 cases. The positive cases crossed 19,000 mark in the state yesterday. As many as 510 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours which is the highest increase in a single day. State Health Department officials said, 35 patients died due to COVID-19 yesterday while as many as 344 persons also recovered during the day.
The Health Department said the recovery rate of the state is improving and it now stands at 68.05 per cent from 44.3 per cent in the last week of May. The number of discharges in the state also crossed 13,000 mark yesterday. Out of the fresh cases, maximum 324 and 30 deaths were reported
from Ahmedabad district alone. Mortality rate in Ahmedabad remains alarming and is one of the worst in the country. As many as 972 patients have died due to COVID-19 in the district till date.
The State Government has allocated 200 crore rupees from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the fight against Corona virus. 100 crore will be given to Health Department to build health infrastructure and the remaining 100 crore will be given to seven Municipal Corporations to fight the pandemic. Ahmedabad city which is the worst affected due to COVID-19, has been given maximum 50 crore rupees.
