New Delhi: The total number of Omicron cases in India has now mounted to 271 with Tamil Nadu reporting 33 fresh cases of this latest coronavirus variant on Thursday. As of now, Omicron cases in Tamil Nadu stand at 34.
According to the data revealed earlier in the day, there were a total of 238 cases of Omicron coronavirus variant reported in India. With 33 more cases in Tamil Nadu, the tally has now reached 271.
Meanwhile, data published by the Union health ministry Thursday morning showed Maharashtra topping the list of states with the maximum detected cases of Omicron with 65 cases of the new variant. Delhi is second on the list with 64 reported cases. As many as 24 cases have been
reported in Telangana, 21 in Rajasthan and 19 in Karnataka.
On Wednesday, Uttarakhand had reported its first case of Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus infection. A 23-year-old woman, who had returned recently from Scotland, tested positive for the Omicron variant, Uttarakhand's Director General Health Tripti Bahuguna said.
Also, two foreign returnees, who had tested positive for Covid-19, were found to have been infected by the Omicron variant, according to news agency PTI.
Amid the surge in Omicron coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting on the Covid-19 situation in the country on Thursday.
