Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala confirmed 3,777 new COVID-19 cases yesterday. The test positivity rate is 6.61 percent at present. 34 deaths due to COVID were also reported yesterday, taking the total death toll to 42,967. Bringing respite, 3,856 recoveries were also reported yesterday. At present, 38,361 is the active caseload in the state.
Kerala on Sunday reported its first case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. A person in Kochi was found to be infected with the variant. He came from the UK through Abu Dhabi
on an Etihad Airways flight on the 6th of this month.
The passenger's wife and mother were also tested positive for the virus. They have been kept under isolation.
State Health Minister Veena George said, all 149 co-passengers on board the flight that day, have been informed about the development. She said, the state Health Department has taken all steps as per the guidelines issued by the union government to tackle the situation.
