The Covid-19 pandemic claimed 213 lives in Kerala on Wednesday, the highest ever daily death rate in the State till date. The State also logged 19,661 new cases during the last 24 hours.

The Legislative Assembly witnessed acrimonious scenes on Wednesday as the opposition UDF alleged that the ruling dispensation was fudging with the fatality rates as well as the newly diagnosed cases. M K Muneer of the Muslim League lambasted the health minister Veena George for her attempts to belittle the seriousness of the situation. The minister denied all allegations made by the Opposition and claimed that Kerala was in the forefront of the world in countering the

pandemic.

George said that the Opposition was trying to portray the death of a person who died when a jackfruit  fell on his head. “How can you term such an accidental death as a result of Covid-19?” she asked the Opposition. The minister also said that Kerala has earned international recognition and repute for the quality medical care given to COVID patients.

The number of fatalities in Kerala due to Covid-19 reached 9,222 with 213 deaths reported from across the State on Wednesday. The Test Positivity Rate in Kerala continued to be on the higher side with 15.3 and this diminished the hopes of the lifting the total lock down in the State.
