Kochi: Kerala continues to report surge in Covid 19 cases as it confirmed 20,772 new infection cases on Friday. The test positivity rate has increased to 13.61 percent. 116 deaths were also confirmed due to Covid yesterday taking the death toll to 16,701 in the state. Bringing respite, 14,651 people recovered from the covid infection. At present, over One lakh 50,000 people are undergoing covid treatment in the state.
Malappuram district has reported the highest number of infection cases at 3,670. There are more than 2,000 covid cases being reported in Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad
districts as well. Over one lakh 50,000 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, as Kerala is witnessing an unprecedented surge in covid cases, a Central team has reached the state to take stock of the ongoing situation. The six member team led by National Disease Control Director Sujeet Kumar Singh will work in two groups to closely analyze the spread of infection in ten selected districts of the state. The Central Team’s visit is to ensure complete assistance from the Centre to Kerala in order to control the rate of spread of the ongoing pandemic.
