Kerala: As many as 50,812 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kerala on Saturday. In the last 24 hours, eight deaths due to Covid-19 were reported in the state.

Along with these eight deaths, the state health department also reported 86 deaths that are reported late due to lack of documents and 311 deaths that are added as per the reconciliation efforts ordered by the Supreme Court. This takes the total Covid casualties in the state to 53,191.

A total number of 1,10,970 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Ernakulam district continued to show a rising trend with daily cases hitting 11,103 in a day.

Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram reported 6,647 new cases followed by Kozhikode with 4,490 new cases, Kottayam with 4,123 cases, Thrissur with 3,822 cases, Kollam with 3,747 cases, Malappuram with 2,996, Palakkad with 2,748 cases, Kannur with 2252, Alappuzha with 2,213 cases, Pathanamthitta with 2,176 cases, Idukki with 1,936 cases, Wayanad with 1,593 and Kasaragod with 966 new cases.

Among the 3,36,202 cases, only 3.4 per cent of people are hospitalised at the moment. As many as 402 health workers also tested positive for covid on Saturday.

Compared to last week, the number of cases being reported saw a rise of about 1,19,062. The rate of rise in



cases is at 57 per cent now. Compared to the previous week, the percentage of people under treatment for Covid, admitted to hospitals, field hospitals, ICUs, ventilators and beds with oxygen are 91 per cent, 102 per cent, 98 per cent, 55 per cent, 58 per cent and 154 per cent respectively.

Strict restrictions in Kerala on Sunday

Strict restrictions will be imposed in Kerala on Sunday in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases. The restrictions in place would render the state in a lockdown-like situation.

The state government had previously announced lockdown like restrictions on two Sundays. This is the second Sunday and whether the restrictions will be extended remains to be seen.


What’s open?

1. Only shops selling essential items such as milk, newspaper, fish, meat, fruits and vegetables and provision will be allowed to function on the day.

2. Medical stores will also be open.

3. While emergency travel is allowed, documents proving the emergency nature should be produced when traveling.

4. There will be no change in the previously scheduled examinations. The buses travelling long-distance will be on road to aid those in need of immediate transportation.
