Mumbai: The daily Covid-19 deaths in Maharashtra peaked further to an all-time high tally of 2,619 on Friday, as the State authorities added a staggering 2,213 old and hitherto unaccounted deaths to the current 406 deaths as part of the ongoing fatality reconciliation process in the State.

A day after the State recorded 1,915 deaths – comprising 393 current fatalities and  1,522 previous unaccounted deaths, the daily deaths in Maharashtra jumped further to 2,619. The deaths comprised  406  new deaths and 2,213 old deaths that occurred prior to one week in various districts and municipal corporation areas across the State.

The State health authorities have been adding the previous unaccounted

deaths to the daily fatality almost on a day-to-day basis for the past five weeks. Between May 1 and June 11, a whooping 27,996 deaths were recorded in the State, of which 12,491 were added to the State’s cumulative death tally, after reconciliation of figures.

During the last four days alone, 4542 deaths ( June 8-407, June 9-400, June 10-1,522 and June-2,213 )  have been added to the state’s cumulative tally.

The State health authorities reiterated that the reconciliation exercise was being undertaken to capture hither-to unreported deaths due to the delayed reporting of fatalities from districts and municipal corporation areas across the State.
