Mumbai: The daily Covid-19 deaths peaked to all-time 2,771 in Maharashtra, as the authorities added a whopping 2,288 old deaths to the current tally of 483 fatalities. On a day when the State recorded 10,442 new cases, the total infections breached the 59 lakh mark.
The death reconciliation exercise has exposed the health authorities’ failure to plug the loopholes in the death reporting process in the state. For, the state health authorities have been adding the previous unaccounted deaths to the daily fatality almost on a day-to-day basis for nearly five weeks now.
Between May 1 and June 13, a whooping 32,733 deaths were recorded in the state, of which 16,385 old deaths were added to the State’s cumulative fatality tally, after reconciliation of figures.
During the last six days alone, 8436 deaths ( June 8-407, June 9-400, June 10-1,522, June 11-2,213, June 12-1606 and 2288 ) have been added to the state’s cumulative tally.
Meanwhile, with daily deaths reported on Saturday, the Covid-19 toll in the state jumped from 1,08,333 to 1,11,104. Similarly, with 10,697 new infections reported on Saturday, the total number of cases in the state went up from 58,98,550 to 59,08,992.
As 7504 patients were discharged from the hospitals across the state after
full recovery, the total number of people discharged from the hospitals since the second week of March last year increased from 56,31,767 to 56,39,271.
The recovery rate in the state dropped from 95.48 per cent to 95.44 per cent.
The total “active cases” in the state rose from 1,55,474 to 1,55,588. The fatality rate in the state went up from 1.84 per cent to 1.88 per cent.
Mumbai logged 18 deaths and 695 infections. The infections in the city remained below 1000 level in the country’s commercial capital for the 15th consecutive day.
With 86 fresh deaths and 695 infections, the Covid-19 toll in Mumbai increased from 15,097 to 15183, while the infected cases went up from 7,14,965 to 7,15,660.
Pune with 18571 cases continued to be remain first in the state in terms of maximum number of “active cases” in the state, while Mumbai with 18,166 stood second, followed by Kolhapur (16,835), Thane (15997), Sangli (10,382), Satara (9928), Ratnagiri (7266), Nagpur (6347), Sindhudurg (6056), Ahmednagar (5424) Nashik (4818), Raigad (4602) and Solapur (4290).
Of the 3,80,46,590 samples sent to various laboratories across the state so far, 59,08,992 have tested positive (15.53 per cent) for COVID-19 until Sunday.
