With an addition of 1230 new cases, the number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has surged to 23,401. The death toll in the state has risen to 868 with 36 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. Maximum number of these cases were reported from Mumbai. The city recorded 791 new cases, with the tally rising to 14,355. With 20 more deaths, the death toll stands at 528 and the recoveries have risen to 3110. 

Over 350 policemen have tested positive for coronavirus in Mumbai, the total number of police personnel infected in the state has topped one thousand. 113 policemen have recovered from the infection, 887 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. Meantime, efforts are on to help stranded workers in the state to reach to their desired destinations.

"Maharashtra State Transport Corporation have safely transported over 21000 laborers along with their



families to the state border in buses from its various depots. Over 1000  ST buses took workers from various places including Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Ahmednagar and Nagpur, along with their families. A train carrying over 1200 passengers of Navi Mumbai has left for Balasore in Odisha, late last night. Local Authority has provided food packets and water to them. All these passengers were transported by 49 buses from Navi Mumbai to Thane. Over 1000 black and yellow taxis and 5000 auto rickshaws from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have left for their native place in their own vehicles. 

Meantime, since lockdown, police department have issued over 3 lakh passes for essential services in the state. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed that over 1 lakh offenses have been registered under Section 188 during lockdown and 19,630 persons were arrested.
