Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail on Sunday reported 81 new cases of coronavirus, after which the prison's tally reached 184. The total coronavirus count in the Arthur Road Jail includes 158 inmates and 26 jail prison officials.
Amid the continuous rise in Covid-19 cases, the jail authorities have decided to make a temporary quarantine facility inside the jail due to law and order situation and logistics issues. Earlier a decision was made to shift the infected inmates to a quarantine facility in Mahul, near Chembur
Doctors from JJ Hospital will visit
the jail every day to check on the infected inmates.
"Due to law and order issue, and other civic, medical, logistical issues that were arising on shifting the inmates to the quarantine facility in Mahul, a COVID Quarantine Ward has been facilitated at Circle No 3 and Circle No 10 at Arthur Road Jail," a senior jail officer said on condition of anonymity.
"Eight-one more inmates have tested positive for Covid-19. A medical team of seven doctors and paramedics from JJ Hospital visited the quarantine ward today and will visit every day now," he said.
