Bhubaneshwar: Odisha witnessed a major spike in Omicron infection yesterday with the detection of 23 fresh cases. With this, the total number of people infected by the Omicron variant of covid-19 has gone up to thirty-seven.
With the detection of 23 new Omicron infection in a single day yesterday, the total covid-19 infection in the state to has shot up to 424. Out of the 23 cases of infection by the Omicron variant, 11 persons are foreign returnees. These cases have been confirmed after the samples were
genome sequenced at the Institute of Life Sciences in the capital Bhubaneswar.
The state health administration is vigorously pursuing the contact tracing of these new cases to delimit the further spread of the new variant in the state. Meanwhile, in the larger interest of the health of children, the state government has postponed the decision on the physical reopening of about twenty-three thousand schools for standard 1 to 5, which was to be effective from today.
