Bhubaneswar: Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 2,46,839 on Friday with 2,697 more people testing positive for the infection, while 17 fresh fatalities pushed the toll to 991, a health department official said.
At least 3,404 patients were cured of the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,20,388, which is 89.28 per cent of the state's caseload, he said.
Of the 2,697 cases, 1,576 were reported from various quarantine centres, and the remaining detected during contact tracing, he said.
Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, recorded the maximum number of new cases at 482, followed by Cuttack at 234 and Nuapada at 153.
Taking to Twitter, the state health department said, "Regret
to inform the demise of seventeen #COVID 19 positive patients while under treatment in hospitals."
Four fresh fatalities were registered in Khurda, three in Balasore, two each in Mayurbhanj and Puri, and one each in Baragarh, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Subarnapur.
The state's case fatality rate (CFR) also stands at 0.40 per cent, he said.
Odisha currently has 25,407 active cases, which accounted for 10.29 per cent of the state's caseload.
Fifty-three COVID-19 patients died due to comorbidties, according to the department.
As many as 36.64 lakh sample tests have been conducted in the state so far, including 45,169 on Thursday.
