Odisha reports 65 new Covid-19 cases

Bhubaneswar: Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 3,38,323 on Tuesday as 65 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said.

Of the new cases, 37 were reported from quarantine centres and 28 detected during contact tracing.

Sundargarh district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 15, followed by Mayurbhanj at nine, Balasore and Khurda at five each.

Boudh, Kendrapara, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts have turned 'coronavirus free' as no active cases exist there, he said.

Sixty-six people were cured of the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,35,796, which is 99.25 per cent of the caseload.

The death toll remained at 1,918 as no new fatality due to the infection has been reported since March 14.

Fifty-three other COVID-19 patients also died due to comorbidities, he said.

Odisha now has 556 active cases, which is 0.16 per cent of the caseload, he



said.

The state has so far conducted over 86.61 lakh sample tests for COVID-19, including 19,611 on Monday, and the positivity rate is 3.91 per cent.

According to official sources, 13,84,934 people, including 1,00,421 on Tuesday, have been vaccinated in Odisha.

Of the people inoculated during the day, 88,872 were senior citizens, and no case of adverse event following immunisation was reported.

In view of the reports of a spike in COVID-19 cases in various states such as Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, the Odisha government issued fresh guidelines.

Residents of the state were suggested to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as per the government protocol and asked to follow the social distancing norms.

People who are now returning to Odisha from other states were requested to undergo home isolation for seven days.

Those who develop COVID-19 symptoms should go for tests, the guidelines added.
