Italy has been under complete lockdown since early March due to the novel coronavirus pandemic that has wreaked havoc on the homeless and the poor people in the country. Citizens, however, are constantly doing their bit to help the needy. For instance, residents of Naples filled baskets with food and hanged them from the balconies of their houses for the needy.
Tom, a Twitter user from Italy, shared a thread with pictures of the baskets, which accompanied a card saying, "If you can, put something inside.
If you can't, take something." One of the pictures also showed an old man looking into one of the baskets for food. The user also informed in his post that it is called a "supportive basket".
"In Naples, people are starting to hang baskets from balconies for less fortunates who can't work due to the lockdown. The sign says, "If you can, put something inside. If you can't, take something". It's called "supportive basket" and it's based off an ancient tradition of the city," Tom said in the caption of his post.
