Six new coronavirus cases, all from areas under the GHMC, were reported in Telangana on Friday.
While the total number of cases in the State climbed to 1,044, the recovery rate continued to improve with authorities discharging 22 patients on Friday. Of the 22, 16 were from Hyderabad, three from Suryapet, two from Vikarabad and one from Asifabad.
Currently, there are 552 active cases undergoing the treatment at Gandhi Hospital, with the total number of persons discharged being 464, Health Minister E Rajender on Friday said.
Rajender, addressing a press conference, said 90 per cent of coronavirus positive cases in the State had their origin from the Markaz cluster. “There are nearly 22 Covid-19 cases that were reported after
the patients developed SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infections). We are in the process of ascertaining the origin of the infection of these cases,” he said.
“Had we not acted swiftly to identify Markaz returnees and their family members in March, by now Hyderabad would have seen cases on par with Kurnool, Guntur and Mumbai. It is unfortunate that some people, despite knowing all these facts, are doing their best to tarnish the achievements of health authorities here,” Rajender said.
“There are vested political interests who are trying to bring disrepute to our containment strategies. Compared to other States, Telangana has done far better in containing the coronavirus,” he said.
