In Tamil Nadu, the active Covid-19 caseload has dipped further to 14,470. However, the number of new infections yesterday has marginally gone up to 1741, including 479 in Chennai.
 
The state health minister Dr C Vijayabhaskar has said the state has an impressive track record in treating Covid-19 patients with comorbidities.
 
The Tamil Nadu state health department says, 90 percent of the diabetic patients admitted in the government run Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai for Covid-19 treatment have recovered from the viral disease, thanks to the



effective medical interventions.
 
However, the state health minister Dr C Vijayabhaskar said it is a matter of concern that 9.8 percent of the state’s population is diabetic.
 
In a function at the more than 200-year old medical institution yesterday, he quoted a study result saying, about half of the elderly population in the state are diabetic, asking the public to be more cautious about lifestyle diseases. He claimed that the Covid-19 positivity rate in the state has dropped to 2.8 for every hundred tests.
