Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced on Monday that the state government would run 40 special trains every day for a week to ferry the migrant labourers in the state to their native states. The special trains would be operated from Tuesday onwards for one-week.
K Chandrashekar Rao said the 40 special trains would run from various stations in Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, Damarcherla and other cities in Telangana. He said trains would ferry migrants of Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and other states.
Telangana CM also held a review meeting on the problems being faced by the migrant labourers in the state due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Medical and Health Minister Etela Rajender, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, DGP Mahender Reddy and others attended the meeting. The discussion took place on migrant
labourers expressing their desire to go back to their native places.
K Chandrashekar Rao had taken a decision to run special trains for the migrant workers so that they could reach their destinations.
To help the migrants in reaching their native states, K Chandrashekar Rao spoke with SC Railway General Manager Gajanan Mallya and requested him to arrange for 40 special trains from Tuesday.
The state government had appointed senior IAS officer Sandeep Sultania and senior IPS officer Jitendra as special officers to oversee the travel of migrant workers to their native states.
Migrant workers have already registered their names with the local police stations to leave for their native places. The labourers who have registered their names with the police stations would be allowed to travel by the special trains from Tuesday.
