In Gujarat, the total number of Covid 19 cases went up to 4,395 with 313 fresh cases reported on Thursday. 249 of the new cases reported from Ahmedabad alone.
In the last 24 hours, 17 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll to 214 in the state.
As many as 86 patients were discharged from the hospital yesterday. Principal Secretary, Department of Health, Jayanti Ravi said that the government has increased the testing capacity to around 4000 cases per day, using pooled testing.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has asked people to resolve to wear masks, maintain social distancing even after lockdown.
There is a continuous surge in the number of cases in Ahmedabad but the rate of doubling of cases which
was four days earlier has been reduced to 9 days now. the number of discharges in the city is also increasing.
The city administration is increasing the bed capacity in the city with the help of the private sector.
Meanwhile, In order to provide relief to the middle class during the lockdown, the state government announced to give free ration to APL 1 cardholders also for the month of May. The distribution will commence from 7th May.
Around 61 lakh middle-class families will be benefited from the decision. The state government said there is a significant loss of GST income to the state, but full salaries will be paid to the government servants and pensioners for the month of April.
