Today is World Kidney Day. The day is observed on the second Thursday of March, every year to create awareness among the people about kidney health and the various diseases that can affect its normal function. This year the theme is- “Kidney Health For All”. The theme focuses on the increasing burden of chronic kidney disease and achieving optimal kidney care to overcome these challenges at different levels. Kidneys are one of the most important organs of the body and help remove the toxins from the body to keep it fit and
healthy.
Dr. Dipankar Bhowmik, Head of Department of Nephrology, AIIMS New Delhi said that some of the symptoms of the kidney disorders include swelling in legs, elevated blood pressure, low haemoglobin and weak bones. He suggested to the people for undergoing regular health checkups for early detection of kidney disease. He also advised for regular physical exercise, balanced diet, keeping weight under control and, limiting salt intake for the prevention of kidney disorders.
