The Mumbai police have beefed up security across 7,297 polling booths in Mumbai for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections to be held on Tuesday. Ninety-five percent of the Mumbai police have been deployed for security arrangements and to maintain law and order in the city.
The police have identified 726 sensitive spots at 159 pockets of Mumbai to keep a check on unscrupulous elements. Extra manpower comprising of Home Guards, Quick Response Team (QRT) and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) officials have been deployed.The Mumbai crime branch and special branch has also formed special squad teams to look out for suspicious activities. The special squad teams will be keep vigilance in and around the polling
booths.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai Police Spokesperson, “videography will be conducted at all 726 sensitive polling booths across Mumbai. Ninety-five percent of the police force has been deployed across Mumbai in order to maintain law and order.” Dudhe added, “Vehicle patrolling, nakabandi at fixed points and bandobasts will be conducted in the neighbourhood areas of all polling booths so that no untoward incident takes place.”
The spokesperson also said that under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), police will prohibit unlawful assembly (section 144). “Nobody else except voters and officials on duty will be allowed within 100 metres of polling booths across the city.”
