In Assam, a total of 345 candidates are in the fray in the second phase of polls. 33 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. The last day of withdrawal of nomination paper has come to an end. 40 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the third phase of polls. Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally today at Karimganj.
Prominent candidates are fighting in the Second phase of polls to be held on 1st April in 39 seats. For the BJP, ministers Parimal Suklabaidya , Bhabesh Kalita , Pijush Hazarika and Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar are in the fray. In Barak
valley, the BJP has fielded former Congress Minister Gautam Roy at Katigorah seat . His son is contesting polls as an independent candidate from Katlicherra seat while his daughter in law is also an independent candidate at Algapur constituency.
Minister and BPF leader Rihon Daimari will seek re-election from Udalguri seat. Sitting MLA Kamalakhya Dev Purkayasta , Kishor Kumar Bhattacharya and former minister Siddique Ahmed would contest for the Congress. Former MP and brother of AIUDF President , Sirajuddin Ajmal will contest at Jamunamukh seat.
