Senior Congress party leader AK Antony yesterday announced that Mr Gandhi will also contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala along with his Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh. Briefing media in New Delhi, Mr Antony said, the decision was taken following requests by many Congress workers and leaders from southern states.
Reacting to Mr Gandhi’s candidature from Wayanad, former
CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said that the Congress party’s decision shows that their priority now is to fight the Left in Kerala. He said, it goes against Congress’ national commitment to fight BJP, as in Kerala it’s LDF which is the main force fighting BJP there. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has fielded CPI’s PP Suneer from the seat.
