In Maharashtra, the battles lines are drawn for the 288-member State Legislative Assembly polls slated for 21st of October. According to the final list announced by the Election Commission after the end of withdrawal date yesterday, there are total 3,239 candidates in fray. On the last day for withdrawal 1,504 candidates withdrew their nomination papers.
While only three contestants are in the poll arena from Chiplun seat in Ratnagiri district, which is the lowest number in the state, the highest number of candidates is 38 in the Nanded South constituency in
Marathwada region. However, in the Mumbai district, there are a total of 89 candidates in fray.
In Haryana, total 1,168 candidates are now in fray for 90 Assembly seats after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations by candidates. Joint Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Inder Jeet yesterday said in Chandigarh that the Election Commission has also allotted election symbols to various political parties contesting the Assembly polls in the State.
The elections are scheduled to be held on 21st of October.
