In Uttar Pradesh, after the
scrutiny of papers yesterday, a total of 156 candidatures were rejected over
various reasons leaving 711 candidates in the fray for the 53 Assembly seats
notified under the 4th phase of state elections. Meanwhile intensive
campaigning continues in the state, where polling will on February 11.
Poll campaigning gets tremendous momentum especially in those parts of the
state which will go to poll in first three phases. Western and central UP
districts and the
districts of Terai region are witnessing the most footfall of
senior party leaders of various political outfits who are hopping from one
place to another to address the maximum possible poll meetings.
The Election machinery in the meantime, is also maintaining a close vigil
for strict compliance of the Model Code of Conduct which has resulted that
thousands of cases have been registered of poll code violation besides huge
recovery of cash and liquor in the state.
